Construction is starting!
Revitalizing public space in the heart of the Borough…
In order to imagine what is possible, Kennett Borough - in partnership with Kennett Trails Alliance - are embarking on a demonstration project along the east branch of the Red Clay Creek in downtown Kennett Borough.
See here for the press release on the park’s groundbreaking!
Where?
The project site would extend along the current gravel trail from the Cypress Street Bridge to the first pedestrian footbridge over the east branch of the Red Clay Creek. The project would include completing the Greenway trail to specification, adding lighting and providing public access to the creek’s stony beach in that area.

Cost
The demonstration project is being fully funded by Kennett Trails Alliance thanks to Square Roots Collective, Chatham Financial and a Commonwealth Financing Authority Greenway, Trails and Recreation Program grant.
Why This Site?
1.
The 33,000 square foot area is easily accessible from State and Cypress Streets and is largely Borough property.
2.
The existing stony beach on the project site provides a unique opportunity for residents to connect to nature in their own backyard.
3.
The existing gravel trail in this area can be improved to Greenway specifications.
4.
The expected permitting requirements are not extensive.
5.
The work needed in this area is self-contained, meaning the work will not impact potential future creek restoration or other work in the area.
